Hi All
I see that the price on the refrence has been brought down so I assume that xin had compelted all the finla tweaks that was required on the amp, does this mean we could expect faster delivery compared to the experince the previous orders had.
dOES xin make each and every amp by himself or does some one help him??

He makes all amps him self. I have not been able to get thru to him on emails for 5 weeks now (well I send them but he don't reply) neither has jamato as far as I know so I don't think he is production mode at the moment.

Where did you see the price marked down?
I still see it listed at $279.99.
I have been checking back on this forum and at the products page on and off since late May when I first found out the Reference would be coming..... and waiting for the $249.99 price that was to be in July. Now it says price reduction in September, but we are very near the end of Sept.
..... I finally signed up to ask some questions.
Anybody know anything about when to expect the discounted price to go into effect.
Also, has anyone been receiving their References? What have the wait times been like lately?

If you go to Cool Stuff you will see: XIN Reference (1/8" in & out jacks, $249.99 in Sept.)
So although the column has $279.99 the price being charged is 249.99 |

Wow..... Does that seem unclear? ... Or is it just me?
I have been skimming this long thread on and off for months. Is that stated in this thread somewhere? Or do you have some other reference for knowing that Xin is definitely charging $249.99 as long as ordered in September?
Are these shipping?
Any more info on the wait time? - Or is it just 1 to 9 months or so (hold your breath, no communication, no confirmation, etc. and good luck)?

If you add the reference to your cart, the price shown is $249.99. The confirmation email also shows the correct price. Of course my credit card will not be charged until the unit ships.
If you want a reference, I would put an order in prior to October 1. I assume that they will return to the "normal" price at that time.

I don't think so, at least only in very small numbers, mostly like beta units.
Yes, that about sums up what you can expect, but it will be worth the wait.
Even though I have just sold my Reference I still find that it is the best amp Xin has ever made, one of the best portable amps on the market (though I obviously have not tried everything), and better than many home amps. It just sort of ended up between 2 chairs for my use between the D1 and the SuperMicro

I think it would help if xin had soem oen to reply to his mails. This would save him the time and he could make maybe one more additional amp . Has any one here compared the XIN refrence to the Hornet?

Only by memory as I sold my Hornet 3/4 years ago in favor of a SuperMacro LE. I found the LE better than the Hornet and the Reference better than the LE. When I originally got the Hornet it replaced a stock SuperMacro-III that in it's place replaced an original SuperMacro.

The amp part of the D1 is in my opinion not at the level of the Reference. Sony pcdp optical in to the D1 is better than Sony line out into Reference but the best combo was Sony optical to D1 dac line-out to Reference but I can not be bothered to carry that many boxes and according to hiflight and jamato the D1 amp with hiflights chipset that I'm waiting for should be very close to the Reference so I decided I could very well live with that.

He delivers a set of 4 chips to replace the opamp in the dac part, and the opamp plus buffers in the amp part. It consists of 1 OPA2111 opamp and 2 AD8397 buffers for the amp part and 1 AD8656 opamp for the dac. Some of these are soic chips so needs to be soldered on to brown dog adapters to fit in the dip sockets of the D1. I can't solder to save my life so he has agreed to produce the set for me (and for several others as I gather). This should bring the D1 very close to the sound of the Reference though not quite there.

It also depepends upon which Reference. My 12,000uf Reference with a coupld of Black Gates I bypassed with is nothing short of purity of sound. I have changed out most all the caps in the D1 for HiQ Black Gates, the best of this type in the world. The D1 sounds exceptional and only when comparing the amp section directly to the 12,000 Ref is there an increase in sound quality noted. The Ref 12,000 sets you back a little more than the 22,000 Ref or D1 from the performance, which is much more natural to me but the D1 with all the upgrades is a very fine amp and the dac does an excellent job.

| John, I agree with you that RE with 12000uf sounds the best after months' usage and comaprison. The original caps used in RE sounds outstanding. Bypassing them with BG caps breaks the balance and I am not sure if I am listening to improvement or just difference. I tried 100uf and 47uf BG NX caps. |
