[10/09/03] The new Samsung Nexio S160 available from Dynamism for $1249.00 seems the first PDA/Laptop that's done right and the best thing after Libretto or since sliced bread.  It is the first time a really useful computer (800x480 reflective screen +  keyboard/cover) that you can really put into your pocket (3.6x6.1x0.5in, 8.8oz). Other built-in features: WiFi, USB, CF slot, VGA port, etc. It is currently sold in HK only and Samsung HK website has very detailed info including user guide and manual.

I never liked Palm and its alike PDAs, because for what people mostly use it for, organizers do them better and are much cheaper and neater.  I recently bought a Sharp OZ-590 and I'm really in love.  More details here.

[07/20/03] A new option is added to Xin Super Mini Amp: class A biasing via current source (CS).  CS improves sound by minimizing small signal distortions (crossover distortion).  Meanwhile, prices are lowered, thanking to our new production line.

The mini XinFeed add-on, 75 ohm and home adapters have been polished and now they look and feel decent.  If you already bought these adapters and if you are not so happy with their packaging, you can replace them for free.

BTW, I'm currently working on a new project - Xin Mini MP3 Player.  For the first time in hi-end audio history, this will the first ultra portable player with a built-in high-end headphone amp.  Like the Xin amp, it will not have the bulky look shared by hi-end audio and it will have many functions not found in current MP3 players.  The first version is scheduled to be available in about three months.  Its firmware will be downloadable and easily upgradeable to end users.

[06/18/03] Some new products added: mini XinFeed add-on module for amps that have no built-in xfeed; mini home adapter for XIN amps with digital pots; and mini 75 ohm ER4P-to-4S adapter.

[05/25/03] As some V6 customers cannot hear the difference of the newly added crossfeed feature, I added some instructions and a test audio for them to find out easily the effect.

[05/17/03] Shipping for amps with digital controls are delayed, due to the bad business of the part vender (Maxim-ic.com).  I ordered the digital pot IC more than a month ago when it was supposed to ship within one week.  I got an automatic email confirmation immediately and it said if anything wrong I would be notified in 48 hours.  Three weeks later, I did not get the parts, nor any email notification.  I emailed them and they told me the shipping was scheduled on 5/20.  Yesterday, I asked them again and they told me my CC was declined.  Of course this is an excuse, a lie.  They had charged the same CC many times and they screwed me exactly the same way before with the same excuse.  Last time I had to ask them to let me talk to their manager to get the parts shipped overnight.  I'll call their manager again on Monday.  I'm very sorry if you ordered an amp with a digital pot and hopefully they'll be shipped next week.  There is no delay for the analog version.

[12/19/02] Because the company who sells the digital control IC cannot guarantee shipping time, I stopped selling the digital version, until I can find a reliable supplier.  I also stopped selling the enhanced replacement cords for ER4S/P, because demands are too high to handle (it is very time consuming to make these cords).  The digital amps ordered before 12/10/02 will be shipped out tomorrow.  If you ordered an amp after that date, it'll be shipped out in 2-3 days. Very sorry for the delay, but I  had no control on the supplier and I've done all I could to ship the amps out before Christmas.  Thank you and happy holidays to you all!

[12/02/02] A key part, the digital volume control IC used in Super mini amp, has still not arrived yet.  Therefore, the shipment of the amp will be delayed and we cannot tell how long at this time.  We are really sorry, but this is out of our control.  This digital pot is hard to get and is almost always back-ordered.  In order to reduce the waiting period, we just added a new version - the Super Mini Amp-a.  It is identical to the "non-a" version except its analogue volume pot.  If you cannot wait, you can cancel your order, or change your order to the newly added "a" version.

[12/01/01] Unlike an analogue volume control, a digital one cannot take more than its power supply voltage, i.e. 4.5V (-2.25 to +2.25) in this case.  The output level of most portable audio is within -1 to +1 V (0.7 V RMS), and thus there is no problem.  Home audio equipment usually output at -2.8 V to +2.8 V (2 V RMS) and may cause the amp to clip.  The headphone output of some desktop/PC audio could be so high that this amp might be permanently damaged by the extremely high voltage (7 V or higher).

The lately amps (shipped after 12/01/02) has an improved input circuit dealing with this issue and can be safely used for both portable and home audio.  If you have an earlier V3 amp and do use it with your home audio, you may send it back for free upgrading.  If you use your V3 amp with portables only, you don't have to do the upgrading.

[11/17/02] The Xin Super Mini Amp (V3) is now available on the Cool Stuff page for online ordering.  Because some of the key parts take two weeks to arrive, shipping time could be anytime between 1 to 15 business days.

[11/08/02] I still have not received some of the key parts including the digital volume control chip.  I called the vendor today and they told me they would ship today (I ordered last Friday when I saw them in stock!).  Hopefully they'll arrive early next week.  Please don't email to ask the status of the V3.0 new amp.

[10/31/02] I've got much more sleep since the shutdown of my amps, but I have not been sleeping all the time.  I spent most of my spare time to develop the V3.0 of my super mini (scroll down to the history section).  I've just finished the first two, and they work just the way I wanted - one-button digital volume control, line-in jack and large caps.  Online purchasing will be available as soon as I receive all the new parts (1-2 weeks). The listed price will be $169, but headwize and head-fi members will get the introductory price of only $99.99.

[10/26/02] A new tip for Sony D-FJ401 portable CD player.  So far the best PCDP with a decent FM/AM/WB/TV tuner and line out jack. A good match to my super mini amps.

[10/21/02] The amps are stopped, until my new design is out.  In addition to more improvements, the new design will reduce the building time significantly.  I.e., by then, I will no longer have to put a high price to prevent orders and, instead, be able to take all orders and ship them timely.  Even though the cost for parts will increase significantly with the new design, I won't increase the price (might even drop it because of the building time decrease).  Hopefully they'll be available again in 1-2 weeks but could be much longer.

For those who already ordered an amp, your order will be shipped within about 1-7 days, depending on your position in the waiting line.  Nobody has been really charged for $125.  Even though you ordered after the price increase, you were still charged for $79.99 only (plus S&H).  The listed high price was just a way to reduce orders but still to allow those who are willing to pay more to get an amp.  Anyway, the amps do worth more than $125.

[10/09/02] Now the super mini has the same feedback loops of the mini.  This is another milestone in super mini's development.  The sound is now transparent and detailed.  Super mini owners can send their amps back for this upgrading.  Because more expensive parts will be added and the work is very difficult, a $20 fee will apply - well worth it.  Now I challenge you for hearing any significant difference from a full meta. Those that have order # equal or greater than 30606083 already have this latest improvement.
